PLANNING A NARRATIVE
Perhaps the two most important aspects to consider when making a documentary is structure and narrative. The two work hand in hand, and over the past week I have been thinking about my own structure and narrative as well elements I wish to include within ALPHA.

Overall the aim of my documentary is to take my audience on a journey. I want to take the viewer from a place of confusion to a place of enlightenment, all whilst challenging ideas and perceptions of masculinity. Society has given us all a rigid outline of what is masculine and what is feminine.
Throughout my 7 minute long documentary I want to challange societies outline about how men should and shouldn’t act. I will be breaking down these stereotypes by exposing very different types of males and portraying them as complex and emotionally diverse as each other – no matter what their appearance and mannerisms.

Constructing ALPHA will be no easy task. With so much to include in so little time I will need to make sure that each of my interviewees is bringing a contrasting and new element into my narrative. After much deliberation I have come up with a outline that includes all the elements I wish to include, as well as who I am planning on interviewing.
After documenting these four essential parts I will come to a conclusion regarding masculinity in todays society. As I continue my journey into delving into masculinity I will examine my findings from my interviews and collect my thoughts which will be put into my conclusion.

I’m excited to start my journey into uncovering the truth about modern masculinity - stay tuned.
