TARGET BROADCASTER

When choosing a broadcaster I felt that the most important thing to consider was which platform would reach the maximum amount of young men... Therefore, I have chosen Vice.

 

Vice reaches twice as many 18-34 year olds compared to other media channels and has grown into a cult platform producing some of the most daring and out there stories  - Ideal for my documentary ALPHA. When producing ALPHA I plan to follow the  invasive Vice style of presenter led interviewing as seen in the ‘Chosen Ones’ series, of going into the environment of my interviewees I will gain a better understanding of their lives and bring out their  personalities which will lead to more in depth and organic answers. 

 

Vice packages cutting edge stories in a fun and quirky way, providing a different perspective on topics that are either taboo or are not often discussed by mainstream media - because of this I believe the narrative of Alpha will fit well within this channel. Vice produces content for youtube which is regularly trended across social media which in turn creates discussion. The topic of masculinity has picked up a considerable amount of attention in the past year, with the phrase ‘man up’ being picked up and dissected across social media and discussed by celebrities. I feel that my own documentary on masculinity would therefore be perfect for Vice to pick up and in turn provide a conversation starter across social media platforms.

Vice’s modern and enlightening tone is something I plan to harvest when engaging with my target audience. Through my deconstruction of masculinity, and vibrant display of contrasting male characters, I plan to reach young males who have gone through a similar identity crisis. I wish to take on a more personal tone than some of Vice's presenter led documentaries, as the topic of masculinity and being scrutinised by the conventions of society is something that is very close to my heart, having gone through these issues myself. By portraying this on screen I will be giving a personal account on my own take on masculinity and therefore aiming to make young males feel content with who they are.
